A commercial vehicle driver, 27-year-old Oluwaseun Hammed, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an alternator valued N16,000.
The accused, a resident of No. 55, Opelu Road, Agbado-Crossing, Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, said the accused committed the offence on Nov. 29, 2016 about 2 p.m. at No. 18, Osoba St., Ifako-Ijaiye, Agege, Lagos.
He said the accused stole the motor alternator belonging to the complainant, Samuel Agunbiade and also made away with his cash of N10,000 before he was apprehended.
Egunjobi said that the complainant gave the accused a commercial bus and asked him to be delivering money to him on a daily basis.
“Hammed removed the alternator of the bus, converted the sum of N10,000 to his own personal use and ran away to an unknown place,” Egunjobi said.
He said the case was reported to the police and the accused was apprehended on Nov. 29, 2016.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 166 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, M.O. Osinbajo, granted the accused a bail of N50, 000 with two sureties, who must be community leaders, clergymen or Imams.
Osinbajo ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, pending the perfection of his bail and adjourned the case till Jan. 20 for mention.
