A 26-year-old man, Ismaila Idris, who allegedly stole three cows valued at N550,000 was on Friday charged before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
The accused, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful conversion of three cows and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olakunle Shonibare, told court that the accused committed the offences in February, 2015 in Alabata, Abeokuta.
Shonibare said that the accused collected the cows from one Abubakar Sodiq under the guise of helping him to rear them.
“The accused reared the cows to maturity and sold them without the knowledge of the complainant and converted the money to his personal use.’’
Shonibare said the offences contravened Sections 383(1) (2)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Idowu Olayinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb.17 for hearing.
