Over 4,000 Angolans marched through Luanda on Saturday demanding for a fair election in August when President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is due to leave power after 38.
The Protests according to report was organized by the UNITA the opposition party
The Dos Santos led MPLA party has been ruling Angola since 1979, and the party is set to retain power in the forth-coming election.
Isaias Samakuva told the protesters that the protest is to denounce the vicious system of fraud perpetuated in recruiting the same companies that participated in rigging elections of 2008 and 2012 in favor MPLA
According to reports, the protest was closely monitored by a heavy presence of police personnel’s as the protesters were chanting slogans against Dos Santos and the two companies contracted to count the votes.
A member of UNITA party Mihaela Webba during the protest said “We want transparency free and fair elections. Dos Santos’s rule has seen the end of civil war and an investment boom in the oil-rich country.
Webba disclosed that Dos Santos has been criticized as secretive and corrupt, with authorities crushing dissent and Angola’s citizens suffering dire poverty as his family became hugely wealthy.
