The Edo State House of Assembly has been in the news for some days now albeit for the bad reasons. The members disappointed in the lack of sports development in Edo State, especially Kick Boxing, decided to take the lead and entered the ring of impeachment with their tools to violently impeach the House’s speaker, Dr. Justin Okonoboh in an attempt to change the leadership of the house on Monday, 14th August, 2017.
It was nothing short of “a display of political hooliganism and barbarism’’ in its entirety this repeated manner of orchestrating leadership change by employing the instrument of violence and the manner official vehicles of principal members of the House belonging to the state are used to settle scores by the executive arm of government.
The consistency of violent change in the House has become worrisome as Edo people must be put into consideration at all times and thus saved the monumental national embarrassment. The people of Edo State are not a violent people. They are people who through the power of reason and conviction can bring about change in any organization.
Edo people deserve better from her legislators than the throwing and destruction of chairs, table and other Assembly properties acquired with tax payer’s money.
We therefore demand a public apology to be published in at least two national daily and on local Television and Radio stations from the leadership of the House of Assembly to the people of Edo State and also to the good people who sat at the gallery of the House of Assembly’s hallowed chamber on that fateful day to watch proceedings of the House. The desperation for power must be curbed as Edo people deserve a lot better than an avaricious and violence inspired legislators that are anything but Honorable.
The Movement for Democratic Leadership also use this opportunity to assure the peace loving and long suffering people of the state who have suffered under the weight of evil and incompetent leadership in the state for more than a decade now to take solace in the fact that a new star is about to rise and a purposeful leadership shall soon be enthroned.
