Coalition of Southern Leaders Forum (SLF) led by the Chieftain of the Yoruba social cultural group Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, former Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Joe Irukwu, and a former head of Nigeria’s Secret Service, Albert Horsfall have disagree with President Muhammadu Buhari over his comment that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable.
The group in a Press briefing in Lagos on Thursday criticize Buhari’s Monday telecast and insist unity of Nigeria should be open for discussion and reformation.
The group during the Thursday press briefing said “the claim that Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable is untenable. Every country is a daily dialogue, and there is nothing finally settled in its life. If we were a settled nation, we would not be dealing with the many crises of nation building that are afflicting us today, which have made it extremely difficult to squarely and urgently face issues of growth and development,”
While calling on President Buhari to address the ultimatum issued to Igbos residing in the north to vacate October 1 2017 by the Arewa youth, the group also condemned the Nigerian police for not being able to arrest any member of the Arewa group that issued the quit notice.
The group condemned Mr. Buhari’s speech in its entirety, added that this is the best time to restructure the country.
