As part of efforts towards eradication corruption in the country, the Nigeria Immigration Service has banned cash transactions for passport processing at all passport offices nationwide.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Immigration Service Sunday James discloses this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Monday that the Comptroller General of NIS gave the directive in a circular sent to‎ all passport offices across the nation.

According to James, the Comptroller General of the NIS, Muhammad Babandede, had directed that henceforth all payments for passport processing must be done online and through designated banks‎.‎

James during the interview said “all payments in respect to passport processing are to be done by applicants through banks to generate application ID and reference number on the NIS portal and not through an individual or touts,”

James hinted that the development is as a result of reports of corruption at passport offices, where Immigration officials connive with touts to rip off applicants.
The Immigration spokesperson however directed ‎Passport applicants to visit the NIS website www.immigration.gov.ng to confirm the approved fees for all categories of Nigerian Passports and age groups before making payments.
