FORMER WORLD BEST PLAYER WINS LIBERIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Liberian election umpire has declared former Liberian football legend George Weah, the winner of the just concluded Liberian presidential election after defeating his close rival, the incumbent vice president.

Although it was widely speculated that there might be election re-run if no candidate wins up to 50 percent of the total vote cast but the ex-Liberian international was yesterday night declared the winner of the presidential election after defeating the duo of the incumbent vice president Joseph Boakai, his long term rivals Charles Brumskine and the former Coca-Cola executive Alexander Cummings.

Weah who is the only African to have won the prestigious Balloon d’Or award and World Best Player will be succeeding the first African female president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as announced by the Liberian official Wednesday night.
