All roads leading to the popular Allen round about and its surrounding was at standstill yesterday as the Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode officially unveiled the statue of the late Music icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The unveiling which was titled “the Liberation” was part of the posthumous honor to mark the birthday of the iconic Afrobeat legend who was born on the 15th of October 1938.
The late musician, cum human right activists, during his lifetime was referred to as “Abami Eda” (strange being) due to his pan Africanist and mystic behavior, was the pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre.
The 25 feet Liberation fiberglass artwork was done by Abolore Sobayo of cowrie studios.
