FINALLY CATALONIANS DECLARES INDEPENDENCE

The secession move which began earlier this month seems to have been successful as information coming in from Spain reveals that the Catalonians have officially declared their independence from Spain in a move that was backed 70-10 in a ballot boycotted by oppositions.

The Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy had earlier in the struggle told the Spanish Senators that direct rule was needed to return law, democracy and stability to Catalonia.

While the Spain Constitutional Court had ruled the vote illegal, the Catalan government disclosed that the 43% out the 90% of those who took part in the referendum were in favour of independence.

Meanwhile the Spanish Senate is yet to pass a vote on whether to enact Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, which empowers the government to take all measures necessary to compel a region in case of a crisis.

The new development would enable Madrid to fire Catalan leaders, and take control of the region’s finances, police and public media.
