Tension seems to be building up in Anambra state following an unconfirmed report which claimed that the former Vice President Dr. Alex Ekweme, has passed away.
Daughter of the former Vice President Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe who is the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the November 18 election in a chat with PDP flag bearer Mr. Oseloka Obaze yesterday said her father was still in a critical condition.
Meanwhile Igwe Professor Laz Ekweme, the younger brother of the former vice president who is the traditional ruler Oko community in Orumba North local government area of Anambra state, when approached over the death rumor however could not state categorically whether his brother was still alive or not.
Igwe Ekweme who still maintain silence on the health of his elder brother who is on admission in a private hospital in Enugu said “I am not in position to tell you anything,”
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari few days ago promised to foot the medical bill of the elder statesman abroad but according to Chief Ben Ezeibe, a close friend of Dr Ekweme they were still waiting for the arrival of the Air Ambulance that would fly the former vice president abroad for treatment.
Inside Sources gathered that his kinsmen in Oko community are still making efforts to get the true situation about the politician who single handedly turned the once sleepy Oko community into a sprawling urban town through the provision of infrastructure.
