OMOKU MASSACRE WAS PLANNED IN IMO_SUSPECT

Whoever says the Nigerian police is not working, is either an enemy of progress or not happy with Governor Nyesome Wike led Government of the Rivers state.

The governor’s sweet relationship with the Rivers State Police and other security agencies in the state few days after gunning down the notorious criminal Don Wanny who was said to be the brain behind the January 1 massacre in the Omoku community in Rivers state has again achieve a great feat in their quest of making Rivers state safe has arrested one Desmond Okotubo another member of the gang who caused the new year mayhem in Omoku community.

The police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood in a statement released shortly after the arrest said the joint efforts of the special Police investigation team which comprises of the IGP-Intelligence Response Team, the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Force Department of Operations and the Rivers State Police Command as constituted by the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately unravel those behind the killings, led to the arrest of the 32-year-old Okotubo who is a native of Egbenma, in Unelga local government area of Rivers State.

Moshood in the statement said that the team engaged the suspects in a gun-to-gun battle in their Awara Forest hideout, a boundary dividing Imo state from River state, as the shooting which lasted for several hours led to the death of six of the suspects while some others escaped with series of bullet injuries to other parts of Imo, Delta and Bayelsa respectively.

Following a tip off by another team of police in Imo state, the IGP-Intelligence Response Team swung into action on discovering that Okotubo who played an active role in the Rivers massacre had escaped to the Mpape area of Abuja after the shoot out on the 3rd of January 2018, he was trailed and subsequently arrested after much resistance.

The 32-year-old Okotubo was said to have confessed to be one of the masterminds of the gang and that the killing was planned in Awara, Imo state.

According Okotubo, their gang leader late Don Wanny gathered them and briefed them on the night of 31st January, 2017 on the mission to attack and kill the residents of Omoku town. 30 of them armed with over 20 AK47 rifles crossed the river from Awara to Omoku forest and then proceeded to Omoku town and opened fire on innocent Citizens celebrating the new year.
