Commercial sex workers along the ever busy Onitsha/Enugu Expressway welcomed the new year 2018 on a sad note when Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state sent the news of demolition of illegal structures along the road thereby curbing the menace of some urchins who specializes in snatching people’s personal belongings.
The motive behind such move cannot be ascertained as the time of filling the report but one of the aggrieved sex workers who was identified as Linda while lamenting the perceived ill treatment melted on them by the state governor said “So, this place has suddenly become illegal structures, this was where we voted for Obiano in the November 18 election. Why didn’t they demolish the so-called shanties before the election? The governor did not even consider giving us a notice before carrying this action. This is inhuman. We are human beings and we have the rights to shelter. But one thing is clear, nobody can force us out of this place. We shall obtain approved plans and build here. Nobody can render us homeless and jobless”
The governor who is not ready to spare anything has deployed the Physical Planning Board, Head of Development Control, security Operations in the state, the Anambra Clean and Healthy department, Anambra Brigade and all necessary apparatus in the state to the said area to bring down all the illegal structures and shanties.
