The National Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), have postponed the meeting with Federal Government over their planned to go on strike till July 11.
“After Sequel to exhaustive deliberations, the chairman, who is one of N UPENG’S representatives, said that both parties have agreed to meet on Mon day July 11 to deliberate on the issues affecting the un ions.
“The GECs of NUPENG and PENGASSAN had a marathon meeting with the GMD/Minister of Petroleum (State) and NNPC top management for several hours meeting, as a result of this, they conclude uphold the strike which is supposed to commence today on hold to allow for useful deliberation with the government representatives.
According to Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the South West Chairman, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers made this known that the meeting which is scheduled to take place today (Thursday) has been shifted due to public holiday declared by government to mark the Eid-El-Fitr.
PENGASSAN and NUPENG unions said that the “crucial meeting” which is being convened to find a lasting solution to problems in the oil and gas sector.
The unions buttress to the issues that they aware of hardship the strike would cause the general public, adding that this was why the unions had agreed to meet with Federal Government and postponed the strike pending time solution resolved.
