The body charged with responsibility of enforcing the Islamic sharia law in Kano state is leaving no stone unturned in order to maintain sharia law in the state following the arrest of 21 people for allegedly violating the Hisbah directives which placed ban on public and street begging in the state.
The public relation officer of the Kano state Hisbah board Malam Umar Yahaya told newsmen on Tuesday that the sharia police in a period of one week has arrested 21 people who were said to have violated the law which prohibits street begging.
According to the public relation officer, eight of those arrested were children, while the other 13 were adults.
Yahaya while briefing newsmen on the arrest said the beggars were arrested in different raids carried out around Bata, Bank and Kabuga roads respectively.
Ten of the arrested beggars have since been charged to court while the other Eleven who were identified as first time offenders were said to have been released and advised to acquire vocational skills to sustain themselves rather than rely on street begging for livelihood.
