The duo of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state and the former governor of the state Chief Bisi Akande are not finding it too well with each, both chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress are currently digging it down on the choice of the candidate that should fly the party come September 22 2018 when Osun state will go to the poll to elect the governor that will run the affairs of the state for the next four years.
The Governor wished and wants to favours aspirants from Osun Central, preferably the current Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola but the APC former national chairman wants to anoints aspirants from the western Senatorial District of the state to fly the party flag in the forth-coming gubernatorial election.
Akande who is from the Central Senatorial District was quoted saying “if fairness should prevail, an Osun West person should become the next governor of the state, a statement that does not go down well with governor Aregbesola.
According to sources in the state, Akande made matter worse when he made an indirect statement to Aregbesola saying that there would be stiff resistance to any attempt, whether by any group, individual or political party, to prevent Osun West senatorial district from producing the next governor, and that such attempt would be resisted, as it would be taken as sheer injustice and lack of fair play against Osun West zone.
The former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC was said to have made the above statement when he received the leadership of a socio-political group, Osun New Era Group, at his Ila Orangun country home few days ago.
During the meeting, Akande said both Osun Central and Osun East had at one time or the other presided over the affairs of the state and so it is time for them to allow indigene from Osun West to govern the state.
According to Akande, almost all the political parties are fielding candidates from Osun West because aside from the tenure of the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke whose government was truncated 22 months into power, Osun West has never had a complete tenure nor had the opportunity of governing the state since the creation of the state in 1991.
