Nigeria Governors’ Forum consisting of all State governors on Wednesday evening met. The meeting started at about 9pm at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Inside Sources learnt that the issue of state police was top on the agenda of the meeting presided over by the chairman and the Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari.
The Governors, it was gathered, might constitute a team that would interface with the National Assembly on the matter.
Other issues on the agenda of the meeting included the recovery of stamp duties and improving Internally Generated Revenue through harmonized motor registry/traffic management system by Dimensions Information Technology.
State Governors in attendance as of the time of filing this report were Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi); Kashim Shettima (Borno); Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Yahaya Bello (Kogi); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); Ibrahim Hassan (Jigawa); Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo); Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna); Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa); and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano).
The Deputy Governors in attendance included Benson Abounu (Benue); Kelechi Igwe (Ebonyi); Cecelia Ezeilo (Enugu); Sonni Tyoden (Plateau); Titi Laoye-Tomori (Osun); Ipalibo Banigo (Rivers); Yetunde Onanuga (Ogun); Moses Ekpo (Akwa Ibom); Kolapo Olusola (Ekiti); Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto); and Oluranti Adebule (Lagos).The Chairman of the Ketu Local Council Development Area of Yewa North, Ogun State, Moses Adegbite, on Wednesday said one school was closed down in the area due to fear of herdsmen attack.
Adegbite, according to a statement, stated this at a stakeholders’ forum in the council.
There had been reports that 30 primary schools were shut in Yewa North following attack by Fulani herdsmen.
But the council boss said, “Only Community Primary School, Igbonla, was truly closed down due to fears of attack by the herdsmen. Those who increased the number to 30 schools were mischievous and they are not sensitive to the plight of the populace.”
Adegbite, however, said herdsmen in the area had been adding to the poverty of the populace as “farm produce was destroyed by the rampaging cattle of the Fulani herdsmen.”
“When farmers tried to challenge the herdsmen from destroying their produce, such farmers are either killed or maimed. The Ogun State Government is, however, doing everything possible to ensure that the destructive activities of the herdsmen are curtailed,” he added.
The Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akinyemi Ebenezer, also acknowledged the menace of the rampaging Fulani herdsmen in the area.
