UPDATE: KWARA GOVERNOR SAD OVER BANK ROBBERY INCIDENT

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has expressed sadness over the armed robbery incident in Offa area of his state that left six persons dead.

At least six policemen and six others, including residents and bank customers, have been reported killed after men of the underworld attacked about five banks in Offa, Kwara state.

Inside sources learnt that policemen and bank customers were among those killed. The robbers were said to have carried out the operation for about an hour on Thursday. They reportedly invaded the town around 4:45pm and operated till about 5:40pm.

 

Among the policemen killed was a man identified as Pelemo, who was expected to retire in few months’ time and a pregnant police woman.

Reacting, the governor urged resident to be calm as security agencies were working earnestly to bring the attackers to justice.

Ahmed said: “I am very saddened by the tragic events at Offa today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died in the armed robbery attack in the town today.

“I am in constant touch with the security agencies in the state and have urged them to do all within their power to secure Offa and environs and bring the attackers to justice.

“I have also directed the health services to rapidly deploy emergency services to treat those injured in the attack. My heartfelt condolences to the people of Offa and the families of victims of today’s attack.”
