Gunmen Abduct Ex-Senator Patrick Ani In Cross River

Unidentified gunmen have abducted a former senator who represented Cross River South, Patrick Ani, he was abducted from his farm in Akpabuyo local government area in Calabar, Cross Rivers state, on Wednesday July 6th.

Mr Patrick Ani, is a third republican senator and younger brother of the former finance minister, Chief Anthony Ani, was allegedly picked up without any resistance in his farm by gunmen suspected to be militants that have been terrorising the southern part of the state.

A man working in Ani’s farm, who preferred anonymity, also confirmed that his boss was kidnapped. Though, a worker in his farm said that policemen came to the farm and promised to investigate the matter as soon as possible.

On the same day that Ani was kidnapped, dare-devil armed robbers stormed a section of Marian Road in Calabar in broad day light and robbed shop owners of their wares and money for about an hour without any form of challenge from any quarters.

However, the unidentified kidnapped of Ani has added to the atmosphere of fear and insecurity that has enveloped Calabar, the state capital, and the neighbouring Akpabuyo, Akamkpa and Odukpani Local Government Areas.

The state police command could not confirm his abduction because the matter had not been reported to the police.
