FIRE OUTBREAK KILLED 8 DAY OLD BABY IN LAGOS

An eight day old baby has died in a fire incident that swept through the Makoko settlement in Lagos, Saturday night

The inferno burnt about 20 housing structures, and rendering over 80 members of the settlements homeless.

The Saturday night started some minutes past 8pm according to eye witness was said to have been as a result of negligence on the part of a resident who was cooking.

The fire incident burnt  over 20 patched housing structures to ashes rendering about 80 people homeless  in the Abete area of Makoko in Lagos.

It was gathered that the initial emergency call to the Lagos State  Fire Service  failed as one of their tankers had no water.

some affected residents that the fire had engulfed 80 percent of the houses before the arrival of fire fighters

A resident identified as Tuga said the fire

“The fire started from two buildings away from mine,” Tuga, one of the residents said the fire killed an eight day old baby who was christened on Friday.

According to Tuga, the mother didn’t know that the foam where she kept her baby was on fire.

Another resident Bashir said he was praying at mosque when he heard noise but he ignored it since its normal for people to shout in the area
