The governor of the food basket of the nation, Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has a cried out for help from concerned Nigerians to assist the state to curb the activities of dreaded Fulani herdsmen.
The governor who hosted officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)in Government House, Markudi,said 12 out of the 23 local government in the state are under frequent attacks of the Fulani herdsmen since he assume office.
Ortom during the meeting with the Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle led executive of the Christian Association of Nigeria listed the local government areas which has been in control of the herdsmen for two years now.
The troubled local government according to Ortom includes Gwer-west, Kwande, Tarka , Buruku, Guma, Logo, Agatu, Gwer-East and Ukum.
Describing how the inhuman activities of the herdsmen had forced farmers out of their farmlands leading to food shortage, hunger, poverty and untold hardship on the people of Benue.
The governor also said the government had commenced a process of ending the incessant attacksin the state with a bill in Benue House of Assembly that would put an end to open grazing in any part of the state.
CAN President, in his remarks said the essence of their visit was to identify with the victims of herdsmen attacks and the Christian community in Benue and also to provide relief materials that would help the victims pick up their lives again.
