There is tension at Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, following the assassination of an indigene of the community by an unknown assailant.
The decomposing body of the deceased was dumped on the street of the town as hoodlums invaded the palace of the Obi of the kingdom, HRM Albert Nwokolo III, carting away valuable historical monuments.
Although the cause of tension in the community could not be ascertained at press time, but sources in the community said it might be in connection with the kingship tussle that has tore the community apart in recent time.
Information made available reveals that two sons of the late king, Obi Albert, from different mothers, had been at each other’s neck over who should succeed their father as the traditional ruler of the kingdom.
From to information gathered so far, a car belonging to the Iyase of the Kingdom, Chris Ogwu, was vandalized by the hoodlums after beating and attempting to set him and his house hold ablaze.
The assailants were said to have chased students and teachers of the Mixed Secondary School in the community out of the school premises, while in search of their opponents.
It was also gathered that Nonso, the eldest son of the late king Obi Albert maintained that seniority favoured him as successor of the throne, but his younger brother, Uche, is insisting that the custom and tradition of the land, which prescribed that the mother of the heir to the throne must be an indigene of the kingdom, must be followed.
