Spanish La Liga giant Barcelona FC has extended the Argentinian playmaker Lionel Messi contract which will see the striker earning around £500,000 on a weekly basis after tax deduction.
The new contract and a huge pay rise takes him above his Portuguese Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest-paid player in Europe.
Messi is currently on £365,000-a-week, but the club have offered him an increase of 37%, as they seek to tie the 29-year-old Argentine down with huge pay.
The deal will elapse in 2021, with his release clause rising to a massive £350million.
Messi’s whose current contract expires in 2018, said he wants to remain at the Barcelonan Camp Nou Stadium.
In an interview with Tencent Sports the Argentinian soccer engine room said “It’s what I always dreamed and what I always wanted. I would like to finish my career at Barcelona,”
