The Governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has declared tomorrow June 12, as a public holiday in honour of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief MKO Abiola.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, Governor Akeredolu said late Abiola’s supreme sacrifice culminated in the hurried departure of the military from the political scene in 1999.
As part of the programs lined up to celebrate the day, the Ondo state government is organizing a lecture, with the theme: “June 12: A celebration of courage and resilience’.
The event which is schedule to hold at the International Events and Culture Centre (The Dome) in Akure will feature eminent and notable Nigerian activists while the likes of Hon. Wale Oshun has been named as the chairman of the occasion and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, will be the guest speaker at the event.
