A retired soldier of the Nigerian Army, identified as Joseph Oloruntoju, slumped and and later confirmed dead on after watching the Bafana Bafana trash Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the Saturday Nation’s Cup qualifier at the Uyo Stadium.
Oloruntoju, who was said to have retired from the army as a sergeant, reportedly left his residence at Ajipowo area of Akure and went to the Owena Army Barracks to watch the match in company of his friends.
An Akure based source who described the deceased as an ardent lover of Nigerian football, said he slumped shortly after the Eagles conceded the second goal.
The retired Army according to the source was rushed to an undisclosed private hospital where he was confirmed dead.
A staff of the hospital who spoke under anonymity said “It was discovered that his blood pressure was overshot. It was while our doctors were trying to save his life that he gave up the ghost. “
