Following the allegations of collecting money to scuttle the investigation of the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, has resigned and Attah has been named the new speaker.
Rurum officially presented his resignation letter during the Monday plenary sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Chidariof.
The former speaker was said to have collected the sum of N100 million from business mogul Aliko Dangote but failed to share the money with the members of the house.
According to the Deputy speaker Rurum resigned to protect his image due to allegations bordering on corruption leveled against him by some of the members.
The lawmakers after accepting the resignation letter from the former speaker elected the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Alhaji Abdullahi Atta representing Fagge constituency as the new Speaker of the house in a nomination moved and seconded by Babangida Yakudima and Zubairu Mamudarespectively.
