The Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, has advised youths in the state to shun the use of illicit drugs and take up capacity building as panacea for State and community development.
Mrs Akinbile-Yussuf made this call yesterday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa after Road Walk organised by the Ministry to mark the 2017 International Youth Daywhich is celebrated across the world,
The Commissioner noted that the state government is not resting in its efforts in making sure that youths Lagos state become self-independent and employers of labours.
Addressing the youths Mrs Akinbile Yusuf said ” when youths are idle they become susceptible to perpetuate crime and commit all sort of atrocities, in order to prevent this, the State Government has intensified and widened the scope of its training programs for the youth of the State. Our intention is to empower youth to be self-reliant and enterprising. This is why Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, set aside 25 Billion Naira through Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) to support Micro and Small medium enterprises by giving out different categories of loans to boost and grow their businesses.”
The Commissioner urged youths in the state to use this opportunity to expand their businesses to the next level.
The Commissioner also advised youths to abolish consumption of hard drugs and drug trafficking.
According to the Commissioner, drug abuse and drug trafficking are some of the most pervasive problems confronting the government and young people with consequences on the family, the community and the nation.
Mrs. Yusuf further said “Drug abuse and illicit trafficking is the primary reason why many youths are incarcerated. By so doing, they become major perpetrators of crime as a result of mental disorders and health problem”
