Inside Sources has authoritatively gathered that six masked gunmen Sunday evening took to the Owo-Ikare Akoko expressway in Ondo state to abduct some passengers plying the route.
The commuters were journeying through the main Oba road in the Akoko area of the state when they were waylaid by about six gunmen.
According to information made available to Inside Sources, the victims in their Nissan vehicle were heading to Akure, the state capital when they waylaid by their abductors around on the bad portions of the Oba road in the Akoko area of the state.
Other sources in the area disclosed that wife of a top local council officer in the state was among the victims abducted by the gunmen.
An officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Akure who spoke under anonymity disclosed hinted that about about five travelers were abducted on that Sunday evening
The spokesman of the Ondo state Police Command Mr. Femi Joseph who confirmed the abduction said the victims were taken into the thick forest near the Akoko Road by their kidnappers
Joseph while assuring the families of the victims said “we are close to arresting the criminals, and I want to assure the family members of the victims to be free in giving the police more information on the case”.
“You know the police cannot reveal its whole intelligence tactics mostly when it is dealing with a sensitive issue like a kidnap case. Proper investigation has begun, and we shall ensure the safe return of these victims, but don’t forget that the police does not encourage any negotiations between the families and the criminals,” Joseph said.
