Following the yesterday’s reports of attack at the Nnamdi Kanu’s residence in Abia state, the Buratai led Nigerian Army has debunks every claim linking the Military to the said incident.
Members of the Indigeneous People of Biafra IPOB yesterday raised an alarm that the Nigerian Army in an attempt to kill Kanu tried to forcefully gain entrance into the premises to carry out their mission thereby firing shots at security officers and unarmed IPOB members around the area which led to the death three of their members and twenty others severally injured.
The Nigerian Army in a press statement signed by Major Oyegoke Gbadamosi, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, vehemently denied any attacks on Mr. Kanu’s residence.
Major Gbadamosi in the statement said “this is far from the truth. Rather, it was a group of suspected IPOB militants that blocked the road against troops of 145 Battalion while as a show of force along FMC-World Bank road in Umuahia town, Abia state at about 6.00 – 6.30pm . They insisted that the military vehicles would not pass and started pelting soldiers with stones and broken bottles to the point of injuring an innocent female passerby and a soldier, Corporal Kolawole Matthew. The troops fired warning shots in the air and the hoodlums dispersed. No life was lost.”
According sahara reporters, the Abia State Police Commissioner, Lele Oyebade, while reacting to the event said there was no attack on the home of Nnamdi Kanu. What happened was that the military was parading a new armored carrier and passed through Nnamdi Kanu’s residence.
The federal government of Nigeria had recently asked the court to revoke Kanu’s bail after the IPOB leader allegedly breached bail conditions granted by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. Also, the Nigerian Army recently began drills in the South East known as “Operation Python Dance II”.
But in another post going viral online an alleged press release by the Abia state Police command reads
re: clash between the military and ipob members at afara-ukwu, umuahia.
Today 10/09/17 at about 1730hrs, there was a clash between the military who claimed they were test driving their repaired APC and members of the IPOB at Afara, the community where the IPOB leader resides.
During the clash, a Policeman was given machete cut on his head and back, one of the Soldiers on the military APC, attached to FOB Umuahia was injured in his left wrist and one Mrs Grace Nwokeukwu of Umuobasi lsiama Afara, Umuahia also had a matchet cut on the head.
All the victims were taken to Police Clinic Umuahia for treatment, while the situation has since been brought under control without any loss of life.
