The Delta state branch of International Federation of Female Lawyers, IFFL and the Nigerian Child Welfare Fund are seems to be at war with the management of Royal Clinic in Udu Local Government Area of Delta state for allegedly detaining two minors for more than eight months over unpaid medical bills.
Sources in the area disclosed that the detainees a 16 years old Caryn Erikhioya and Great Favour 14 were admitted to the hospital following a commercial motorcycle hit by one Alfred Ogboru along Udu Expressway in January, where he Ogboru promised to foot the four hundred thousand naira medical bills but has since disappeared.
Inside Sources gathered that International Federation of Female Lawyers swung into action following a tip off that two girls were detained in the Hospital over unsettled medical bills.
One Akujobi who spoke on behalf of the human right organization claimed that the two girls sustained grievous bodily injuries with one of them having a fractured leg.
According to Akukobi, the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment by the same Alfred Ogboru, who deposited twenty thousand naira with a promise to take full responsibility of the medical bills.
Akujobi claimed that Ogboru later abandoned the girls in the hospital, which he allegedly claimed to be his private clinic and refused to pay the medical bills.
The human right activist who demanded for the immediate release of the girls stated that the continued detention of the two girls who cannot speak for themselves under the law of contract was unlawful.
Meanwhile the Medical Director of Royal Hospital Dr. Owata has however challenged Akukobi and her team to go to court over the matter. He pointed out that the said Ogboru agreed to take full responsibility of the medical bills incurred but later abandoned the girls at the hospital as all efforts to to reach him has been fruitless.
