Following the conclusion of the federal executive council meeting last week that cases of the monkey pox virus in Nigeria were only suspicion unless confirmed after laboratory tests, the World Health Organization’s laboratory in Dakar, Senegal has proved positive of the virus which was first discovered in Bayelsa in September.
According to Channels news the minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole, has confirmed three cases of the ravaging monkey pox virus from the 13 suspected cases to be positive.
Professor Adewole while speaking in Abuja on Monday hinted that four results from the forty-three suspected cases reported from other states including Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Ekiti states were negative.
Meanwhile the minister after the last week’s federal executive council meeting had blamed states governors for slow response to outbreaks of the disease.
