The chaplain to the Bishop of the Ondo Central Diocese of the African Church Nigeria Reverend David Ayeola have been reportedly killed by his suspected kidnappers.
The cleric was reportedly shot in a botched rescue operation after the church had offered to pay the sum N500,000 instead of the N100m ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
Sources in the know disclosed that the late Ayeola, Bishop Samuel Ojo, and his wife were on their way to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital from Imojo in Ekiti state when they were attacked by some gunmen on the road.
It was gathered that the Bishop, his wife, the driver of the bus and other Passengers in the bus were said to have fled to the bush before the gunmen abduct the chaplain and took him away.
A top pastor in the Ondo diocese of the African Church said while the Leaders of the church were trying to buy time with negotiation, the police also closed in on the hideout of the abductors for the rescue of the chaplain which led to gun fire exchange between the police and the kidnappers on Saturday.
The young cleric according to sources just finished from the seminary when he met his sudden death.
