MONKEY POX: 6 NEW CASES CONFIRMED IN AKWA IBOM, ENUGU AND FCT

The recent laboratory test released recently by the Minister of state for health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has confirmed six new cases of monkey pox in Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Abuja.

With the recent confirmation, Nigeria now has nine cases of the monkey pox virus in different states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister while making the announcement in his office yesterday however noted that there are investigations going on to see if any of the new cases has a link with the Bayelsa cluster, where the outbreak was first discovered.

Dr. Ehanire while making the announcement yesterday called on members of the public to remain calm as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is working with all affected states to ensure case finding and adequate management.

The minister also hinted that as frightening as the cases seems, no fatality has been recorded till date, following the total of 94 suspected cases reported from 11 states like Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Nassarawa, Niger, River] and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Dr. Ehanire the newly confirmed patients are already receiving medical care ever since the suspicion of the virus
