Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi west senatorial district was yesterday saved by security personnel’s at the Kabba Day celebration when suspected thugs attacked him stoning him all sorts of dangerous objects including stones, sachet water and charms.
Sources at the event disclosed that chaos was let loosed when the Master of the Ceremony called on Senator Melaye to make his speech prior to the arrival of the state governor.
It was gathered that the Senator on stepping down from the podium after the speech and a cash donation of N3 million, a number of suspected thugs descended on the Senator while making his ways to his (SUV) Mecedez Sport car.
Following security report at the township stadium, venue of the Kabba Day Celebration, the state governor Yahaya Bello who was already close to the venue immediately made a u-turn and head back to Lokoja to avoid further attack.
An eye witness hinted that the situation came under control with the intervention of security men at the venue who used tear gas to disperse the hoodlums as the senator escaped unhurt.
