Human right lawyer and counsel to the detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN Femi Falana (SAN) has called for release of Ibraheem El-zakzaky and his wife Zainab El-zakzaky in order for them to get urgent medical attention.
Falana said in his letter to president Buhari on Wednesday titled ‘Fresh request for the release of Sheik Ibraheem Elzakzaky and Hajia Zainab Elzakzaky asked for the release of the cleric on health ground so he can go for treatment to prevent him for losing his right sight after losing the left eye
According to Falana the Islamic cleric loosed the left eye due to the brutal treatment he got from the armed soldiers and that the operatives of the State Security Service(SSS) has also denied him treatment abroad as recommended by the local specialists who had previously attended to him.
It was gathered that all arrangement by the family of the cleric to bring in an eye specialist from abroad to treat him in their custody has equally fell on deaf ears.
Falana in the letter said “It may interest Your Excellency to know that the medical condition of Mrs Zainab El-zakzaky is by far worse than that of her husband. For reasons best known to the State Security Service, some of the bullets lodged in her body during the brutal attack of December 14, 2015, have not been extracted up till now. In the circumstances, she has been subjected to excruciating pain and agony, on a daily basis. Her life which is currently in danger may be saved and prolonged if she is allowed to receive adequate medical attention without any further delay”
