Popular Nigerian Gay activist, Bisi Alimi has advocated for the immediate release of Nigeria’s transgender celebrity Bobrisky who was arrested few days ago.
Although it was earlier reported that Toyin Lawani was the brain behind the arrest after accusing Bobrisky of stealing her cream and customers, but when Alimi gathered that the arrest was based on his gay activities called for his release claiming the arrest is useless because being gay is not a crime in Nigeria.
Alimi who took to his facebook page to condemn the arrest said “while we are not yet clear on what crime Bobrisky committed, I have to say irrespective of your view of Bobrisky, the arrest demands that we all come together and speak out persistently.
This arrest is the second in line of the arrest of people who are publicly challenging the norms in Nigeria. The first was Kemi. We might not like Bobrisky, but it is a matter of time that someone we will like will get caught up in this web of insanity sweeping across Nigeria. Speak now because you never know when it will be your turn”
