Following series of issues raised by stakeholders and political parties, there has been serious confusion over the already scheduled November local government election in Kwara state.
Inside Sources has authoritatively gathered that tension is gradually building up in Kwara state as to whether election of new chairmen to the 16 local government areas in the state will hold or not following a last minute change of plan by the Kwara State independent Electorate Commission (KWASIEC).
For weeks now, opposition parties and politicians has been on loggerhead with the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Dr. Uthman Ajidagba led KWASIEC over botched plans to manipulate the outcome of the election in favor of the APC candidates.
The commission in a way to gain public trust has denied such allegations and has continued to make series of promises that the election will be free, fair and credible just to win back the distrust from opposition parties and electorates.
It was gathered the state election umpire penultimate week disqualified 4 out of the 16 chairmanship candidates of the People’s Democratic Party PDP on the ground of late submission of forms an action which further raised concerns from observers over the possible outcome of the poll.
The kwara state Coordinator of Voters’ Right Agenda (VRA) Comrade Alhassan Ajirotutu, who confirmed the tense political atmosphere in the state ahead of the poll warned that the complaints of the opposition political parties be looked into with more seriousness by the government to prevent possible post-election crisis.
