A detective police officer Sergeant Lanre who played a major role in the arrest of the most wanted Lagos based billionaire kidnapper, Onwumadike Chukwudumeme popularly known as Evans was said to have been killed in operation in the Niger Delta region.
Lanre according to sources was shot in the stomach during a gun battle while his colleagues got bullet shots in their body during a similar operation in the Niger Delta area.
Sources disclosed that the ready to serve policemen unperturbed by the surprise attack, chased the kidnappers and killed the man that fired the killer shots.
Inside source gathered that Lanre who was already responding to treatment gave up the ghost few days later.
One of his colleague who spoke under anonymity while lamenting the death said “It is really sad and painful altogether. We have not been able to tell his wife and other family members yet. This is the risk of the job we are talking about; we put our lives on line for others, yet when it is time for promotion, one thing or the other will happen and the list will be kept in view. Look at this now, Sergeant Lanre was one of the men that put his life on the line to arrest Evans and now he is dead. We don’t even know how to break the news to his wife and family. It is painful,”
