Following the recent press statement issued by the Rivers state Command of the Nigerian Police Force and signed by the Police Commissioner himself, CP Zaki Ibrahim, in relation to the incident involving the attempted Security breach on the Governor’s Travel Protocol, numerous questions have flooded one’s mind as to the objective of such half-baked, scandalous and mostly unprofessional release from a supposedly Professional institution and revered Government Agency such as the Police Force.
While not attempting to join issues with the CP, one is tempted and persuaded to ask the following pertinent questions to the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
1) What is the duty of the Motorcycle Outrider in a Presidential Convoy and what is the permitted distance between the outrider and his principal if any by Law?
2) Does the Law give same status to the President and Governor on the Road while using sirens on their convoys?
3) Can a minister in the FCT knock down the President’s Bike outrider?
4) If that happens…… What’s the punishment and who should be punished?
5) What is the Primary role of the unit called Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS)?
6) Does their function include escorting APC Chieftains and Petroleum tankers in Rivers State?
7) What is the role of FSARS, with her commander, in the Convoy of the Minister in Rivers State?
8) Is the FSARS and her Commander, CSP Akin Fakorede on a special mission to cause the breach of the Peace or to assist in curbing the menace of Armed Robbery in Rivers State?
9) What was or what is their role in the convoy of APC Chieftains in Rivers state?
And lastly, but definitely not the least….
10) Who should defend the activities of Police officers including FSARS, which is an arm or unit amongst the various units that make up the Police Force in the media; should it be the Police PRO or the commander of FSARS in Rivers state, CSP Akin Fakorede?
And why is it proving very very difficult to transfer an erring officer whose men are obviously on a killing rampage of innocent and defenseless citizens instead of criminals and Armed Robbers?
I ask these questions to help clear the air as the Police should be and seen to be Neutral in matters that affects the Polity, such as the one at hand.
It is imperative to note that the Rivers State Police Commissioner should have completed his investigations properly, before coming out with a statement that ridicules common sense and brings his exalted position to disrepute!!!!!
If He, as the head of a unit of one, out of the number of security agencies charged by Law to defend and protect the State and her indigenes, cannot stand out and be neutral as is expected in a matter like this that involves Senior Citizens and apportion reprimands appropriately, one can only wonder what would be the case if it involves ‘nobodies’ of our society, they would probably kill themselves and it would be described as ‘Minor’.
This is one case out of many that have clearly shown the odds the River State people with her Government are battling against, and which as it usual with children of destiny, would come out Victorious.
It can be seen that the Security and Travel Protocols of a seating Governor were brazenly breached, and instead of calling a spade its name, attempts are been made to cover up the truth and sweep it under the carpet with an Evil Broom that has brought nothing but hardship, Shame, Poverty and Remorse to the Good People of Nigeria in general, and Rivers State, in particular.
If this can be waved aside as minor in Rivers state, it then means that the security of other Governors and by extension, the President, could be breached at will.
Once again, the opportunities have come for the IGP, and indeed the Police Force to redeem her battered image and ensure that Truth prevails.
Only recently, in a quiet ogoni town near Bori, these daredevil FSARS officers opened fire on armless youths and three lost their lives instantly.
How many more innocent and armless civilians would have to die before the Rivers State CP and his boss, the IGP does the needful?
We only ask that the CP tells us the Truth, and that FSARS be reorganized in Rivers State as the present leadership is obviously biased in favor of the APC.
This breach must be properly addressed as well the role of this unit of Police (FSARS) that has become a killing machine in Rivers State
A stitch in time, they say saves nine.
