When earlier this week, the awesome campaign machine of Benedict Duntoye traversed the length and breadth of the country to canvass for support to be voted as the People’s Democratic Party’s National publicity secretary; It looked like an over kill. Apparently, a master of public relations, Ben Duntoye was out to give a hint of what he could do as the PDP NPS. In the very short space of time, he made his statement and it was heard loud and clear across the entire profile of the party and non-party members alike.
Given the mandate and resources available to a PDP national publicity secretary, comrade Ben Duntoye will definitely dwarf the propaganda machine of the ruling APC. This must have been seen by party loyalists and delegates in most geo-political zones of the country. Independent opinion polls done online has given him a clear lead with 58% favouring his emergence ahead of a second position candidate from kogi state who has 21%.
What may likely happen at the convention grounds?
Having received almost bulk support from home base, we may likely have concessions and last minute step down for his candidacy as talks are on-going with the less favoured camps. Massive supports have been secured largely in the south west, south-south, North West and northeast. The North central appears divided but with Ben Duntoye enjoying more endorsement. The South east presently do not have a consensus candidate but will be moved to pitch tent with Ben Duntoye by some glaring factors.
Inside sources have continued to hint of an uneasiness in the APC media organisations following Ben Duntoye’s rising profile and almost certainty of emerging as the next national publicity secretary of the PDP.
The direction of the convention in this wise is seen in many quarters as an omen of an emerging stronger PDP. We may be looking forward to a PDP whose party messages will be carried to the people by an accepted and charismatic messenger.
