The Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hajia Animat Omodara has urged members of the legislative body in the council to sacrifice their political differences for legislations that would have positive impact in the lives of the people.
She gave the advice in Ilorin on Friday while swearing-in the vice chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Salihu Yusuf and members of the legislative council held at the council secretariat, Waarah.
Eleven members of the legislative council who took the oath of office included Imam Yusuf from Alanamu Ward; Mustapha Garba Tunde from Ojuekun/Zarumi ward; Yusuf Tunde Lawal Ubandawaki ward and A. T. Hassan who represents Oko-Erin ward.
Others were Ajao Abdulrazaq, Ajikobi ward; Busari Muritala, Ogidi ward; Sikirullahi Abdulkareem, Oloje ward; Abaya Yusuf Alabi, Mogaji Ngeri ward, Salihu Suleiman, Baboko ward; Ibrahim Muritala, Badari ward and Ahmed Bello Lukman representing Wara/Osin/Egbejila ward.
At the end of the inauguration, members of the legislative council elected Ibrahim Muritala representing Badari ward as the Speaker of the council.
The Herald recalled that the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission had declared the election into Adewole ward inconclusive and another election was yet to be conducted in the ward.
Out of eleven members sworn-in, 9 are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the remaining 2 from Oloje and Ogidi wards are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Omodara urged members of legislative body to ensure the interest of the people of the council was paramount to them instead of political parties’ differences.
According to her “the APC and PDP councilors in the house should emulate the good spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the Honourable members of Hallow Chamber in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and forge ahead in the task of building the council in order to achieve the desiresd goals and objectives”.
Omodara stressed the need for the newly elected councilors to make laws that would better the lives of the people of the council.
She noted that the whole episode that characterised the last local government elections was a lesson for members of the council to deliver the mandate of the people given to them.
The council boss assured that the resolve of the present council leadership to fulfill its electioneering campaign promises with a view to accelerating socio-economic development of the council.
“We will not rest on our oars by ensuring the provision of basic social amenities that would transform the lives of our people with a view to complementing the giant stride of present administration under Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed”.
The council boss praised the leadership roles of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari for the council and assured that the present council leadership under her watch would not disappoint them.
The Speaker of the council legislative body, Ibrahim Muritala was later sworn in by the Council Legislative Clerk, Abubakar Imam Fulani.
