A yet to be identified set of gunmen yesterday stormed the Karshi area Abuja residence of the acting chairman of the economic and financial crimes commission EFCC Ibrahim Magu leaving the police officer on duty dead after a gun fire exchange.
The Tuesday 12 December attack which occurred at about 10pm was said to be the second in the month of December alone.
The attacks according to sources came following a statement credited to the anti-corruption boss who refused to bow to pressure from some high-profile suspects and Politically Exposed Persons.
Magu few days ago was quoted saying “For those of us on this side; in the anti-corruption agencies of government, in the media, and civil society, the dagger is drawn and I believe I am speaking the mind of everyone on this side that we intend to neither retreat nor surrender in our noble intention to cure our country of the evils of corruption”.
According to the embattled acting chairman of the anti-corruption agency “For us as a country, the fight against corruption is a ‘do or die’ affair; we have to win the battle or die trying.”
Inside Sources also gathered that security has been beefed up for Magu and his immediate family leading to the deployment of more policemen to the Karshi bungalow in Abuja following a report that some suspected elements had also been prowling the family’s house in the Borno State capital and issuing threats to the aged mother of the EFCC boss.
