The people of Rivers state will henceforth have nothing to fear over gas distribution because the governor Nyesome Wike led government of Rivers state and Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) have reached a top agreement for availability of gas in a very massive capacity throughout the state.
In addition to the already existing gas distribution in the state, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Richard Hart on behalf of the Rivers state governor signed a memorandum of understanding with Shell Nigeria Gas to boost gas distribution in the Greater Port Harcourt area and its environs.
The content of the MoU is to set wide range of terms and conditions to guide the Rivers state government and Shell Nigeria Gas in developing a new gas distribution opportunity as one of the government’s efforts to boost industrialization in the State.
The good news now is that the MoU will give opportunity for a system called Build-Operate-Own-and Transfer (BOOT) from early next year so that businesses can begin to reap the benefits of a steady source of energy.
Gas is key to boosting industrialization, any state who wishes to increase their internal generated revenue IGR and provide employment opportunities to people in the state should look at gas distribution just as Rivers state has done, the Managing Director of Shell Nigerian Gas Ed Ubong who signed on behalf of SNG said while commending the Rivers State Government for the foresight and co-operation in the signing of the MoU.
