After so many months of living in fear, the residents of the troubled areas in Ikorodu, Lagos state may now sleep with both eyes closed as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led Lagos state government in order to restore peace to the areas once terrorized by the Badoo cult group on Monday inaugurated Squadron 63 Mobile Police Base at the Igbogbo Bayeiku area of Ikorodu.
In order to curtail the rising rate of ritual killings, murders, kidnappings, armed robbery and other criminal activities which has been giving the residents of the area sleepless nights, the newly inaugurated Squadron 63 Police Mobile Force (PMF) headed by a superintendent of police has been equipped with a handful of combat ready anti-riot police personnel’s.
Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris who was ably represented by a deputy inspector general of police Mr Folusho Adebanjo, at the inauguration said Ikorodu over the years have transformed to be one of the fastest developing areas in Lagos with thriving commercial and social activities of emerging cities.
Adebanjo during the inauguration called on the residents of the troubled communities to cooperate and support the new security setup by providing useful information to curtail insecurity in the area.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal, who was also present at the inauguration said the establishment of the PMF squadron based in Ikorodu would help to reduce the crime rate in the area to the barest minimum.
In his speech Edgal said “Community policing and safety partnership is working and I can promise that the year 2018 is going to be more of action and less talk. Squadron 63 is here, in the next one week you will see their deployment and of course, crime rate will reduce drastically”.
Representing Governor Ambode at the event, the Secretary to the state Governor, Mr. Tunji Bello, in his address said “the PMF Squadron 63 was established in Igbogbo Baiyeku to effectively address the security challenges in Ikorodu area. Universally, the primary responsibility of government is to ensure the safety and security of its citizenry. No meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of chaos, fear and uncertainty about the safety of lives and property”.
