Despite government’s claims that the country is out of economic recession, the rate of poverty and hardship in the country is biting harder on daily basis. A newly born baby was allegedly killed by his father in Bauchi because he cannot afford the cost of the naming ceremony of the child.
The father who was identified as Habibu Bala, in Ningi local government of area of Bauchi was arrested by the men of the Bauchi state command of the Nigerian police after investigations revealed that he killed his five days old son with an insecticide
The Bauchi state Police Public Relations Officer DSP Kamal Abubakar, who briefed journalists yesterday about the successful operations of police in the state in the last one week said the suspect’s close relation, one Musa Bala reported the case at the Ningi Police Station that Habibu has poisoned his newborn son while feeding him.
The Baby became unconscious and was later taken to Ningi General Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.
Habibu who confessed to have committed the offense said he killed the child because he had no money to organize naming ceremony for the child.
