A member of the Ekiti state chapter of Oodua People’s Congress OPC who was arraigned at the Ekiti State High Court over his alleged involvement in the death of the former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Omolafe Aderiye has been discharged and acquitted.
The accused Adeniyi Adedipe was discharged alongside six other members of the Ekiti state All Progressives Congress APC Adebayo Aderiye, Sola Durodola, Kayode Ajayi, Oso Farotimi, Sola Adenijo and Rotimi Olanbiwonnu, who were accused of the same crime with Adedipe.
Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, while delivering the judgement, said the prosecutor could not prove the accused were responsible for the death of Aderiye, an associate of governor Ayodele Fayose who was murdered during the Ekiti state governorship electioneering in 2014.
Aside dismissing the evidence of one Ibidapo, that one Adesokan Adedeji Israel alighted from a Golf Car and start shooting into the air before firing the shot that killed the late transporter, the judge during the prosecution said “It is inconceivable that amidst sporadic gunshots, the witness would observe the purported killer(s) as what would be in the mind of the witness was how to escape from the scene hence the court won’t believe Ibidapo’s evidence. None of the alibi raised by the defendants was investigated by the police. The evidence of the prosecution failed to bring down the evidence of the defendants”
