In a bid to end the activities of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria, the General Commanding Officer (GOC), of the Nigerian Army 7 Division, Maiduguri, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Yusuf on Tuesday called for a closer relationship with the media in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the area.
Gen. Yusuf while receiving members of the Borno state Correspondents’ Chapel who were on a courtesy visit to the command said such working relationship was imperative to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign and restoration of peace to the region.
In his address, the commander hinted that there was a need for the media to create awareness on the ills of the Boko Haram ideologies and fast track de-radicalization process. “Presently, we have a community sensitization and psycho-social support program which is yielding positive results. Whenever the insurgents surrender to our troops, they are worried about their lives because they have the notion that they will kill them”.
Yusuf urged the media to sensitize the people to be vigilant and cooperate with the military to enable them to win the war against insurgency.
