The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State in a statement issued yesterday by its Director of Research and Documentation, Achadu Dickson, alleged that APC’s last weekend’s rally, which allegedly cost the state about N2bn at a time when unpaid salaries and pensions were in the region of 22 months “was the height of wickedness and insensitivity to people’s plight.”
The PDP accused Governor Yahaya Bello of wasting state resources to put together a rented crowd in the name of a mega rally.
He wondered why Governor Bello would dole out N750, 000 per unit for the purpose of mobilization, while council administrators were allegedly directed to mobilize 500 persons at N5, 000 per person.
“Bello’s spending of a whooping N2bn tax payers fund to organize a rally that is of no significance to the lives and well-being of Kogi people is disheartening and a glaring show of man’s inhumanity against man,” he said.
Dickson said it was worrisome that a governor who was planning to sell off state assets to fund the 2018 budget could hire a private jet for the APC national chairman to attend the “cash and carry jamboree” in Kogi State.
The statement called on INEC to investigate what it described as “early campaign by Governor Yahaya Bello and his party, the APC.”
Reacting, the Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, said the APC did not need to waste such resources to bring people together as claimed by the PDP, adding that the opposition party was only being jittery having lost their “polar powers” to the APC.
