At least, seven persons may have died following renewed hostilities between the people of Onyadama and Inyima in Obubra and Yakurr Local Government Areas of Cross River State.
Hundreds of residents, especially women and children, have fled the warring communities apparently for fear of being caught in the web of violence.
Both communities, which share the same cultural heritage, have been entangled in a farmland dispute over the years.
The latest fight, which started on Friday, had claimed at least seven lives while several homes were razed during the clash.
Although the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, could not confirm the number of deaths, he, however, said riot policemen had been drafted to the troubled communities to maintain peace.
