Aggrieved youths of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, have disrupted the gathering of the party leaders and faithful in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State.
The youths, it was gathered got angered when the chairman of the local government insisted on the member representing Patani constituency at the state House of Assembly, Hon Timi Tonye to address the mammoth crowd.
In a swift reaction, Timi Tonye said, those that disrupted the meeting are not members of the PDP but thugs sent to discredit his personality.
According to a source who sought anonymity, “The meeting of the leaders and stakeholders of the party was called by its Chairman, Godspower Asiuvwu to review activities and strategize ahead of the 2019 elections.
According to the source, “The youths alleged that, Hon Timi Tonye have no achievement in his constituency to show for his three years in office and should, therefore, not be allowed to speak in the meeting.
“All Attempts by party leaders and the council Chairman, Perez Omoun, PDP chairman, the party’s senatorial chairman and others to pacify the youths to maintain calm did no good as it almost aggravated the issue to violence and the meeting has to be declared closed by the Senatorial Chairman of the party.
The member representing Patani Local Government Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Timi Tonye had advised against thuggery ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Reacting to the incident, Hon Timi Tonye in a telephone chat with newsmen, said, “What happened was a blessing in disguise as it has boosted my confidence and chances, knowing fully well now that they are afraid of me.”
He said: “Those that disrupted the meeting were not party faithful but thugs hired by the oppositions to ridicule my personality and achievements.
“Those boys were thugs hired by two of my oppositions Emmanuel Sinebe and ThankGod Trakiriowei who are aspirants for the same position with me to scatter the meeting and not allow me opportunity to address real party faithful and my supporters of the good works I have been doing”.
