INEC may review Edo, Ondo guber timetable next week

Although the Federal Government has directed the resumption of work with effect from next week , the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday said it would meet to review the situation in its offices across the country .
After the meeting scheduled for Thursday , May 7 , 2020, the commission said it would adopt a clear road map and guidelines for resumption of activities in line with the announcement by the Presidential Task Force on COVID – 19 .
INEC National Commissioner and chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee , Festus Okoye , stated this in a statement entitled : “Resumption of normal activities in the commission”, issued after its meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
According to him , the meeting deliberated on a number of issues , including preparations for the conduct of governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states scheduled for September 19 and October 10 2020, respectively ; the forthcoming bye elections in Bayelsa , Imo and Plateau States and plans for resumption of normal activities .
Okoye said , “The commission noted the advisory and protocols outlined by the PTF on combating COVID -19 on the gradual easing of lockdown from Monday , May 4 2020 .
“The commission will meet on Thursday , May 7 2020 to review the situation in its offices across the country and adopt a clear road map and guidelines for resumption of activities in line with the announcement by the PTF .”
